Recurrence
4B5,6 The patient is a one year old girl with a clinical diagnosis of recurrent pilomyxoid astrocytoma following a resection seven months prior. Operative procedure: The cells show little atypia, but focally, there is an increased mitotic rate (5/10 high power fields in slide C1). The proliferation index by Ki-67 ranges from 7 to 10%. In the most hypercellular areas, there are entrapped neurons demonstrating the tumors infiltrative nature. A suggestion of pseudorosette architecture is also seen in these areas. No Rosenthal fibers or eosinophilic granular bodies are seen.
