At autopsy the weight of the unfixed brain was 1260g. The unfixed brain shows most substantial expansion and changes of the brainstem. The ventral aspect shows a lumpy nodular expansion involving the ventral pons in which the basilar artery is nearly surrounded by the hyperplastic pons.
