The ventral surface of the pons is greatly enlarged and lobulated. The basilar artery lies within a deep groove on the ventral surface of the pons and is partially obscured by overhanging lobules of firm tissue. Examination of coronal sections of the cerebral hemispheres reportedly discloses a grey, soft tumor infiltrating the subependymal portions of both lateral ventricles, as well as the midline structures, such as the septum pellucidum and fornix. Caudally the tumor involves the thalamus.
