Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (GLIAL) | Ependymoma, tanycytic | 7C Ependymoma, (Case 7) GFAP 40X
7C Special stains were performed to better characterize this tumor. A glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) is strongly and diffusely positive. ---- Other (not shown): A D2-40 immunostain (podoplanin) highlights a subset of cells with cytoplasmic reactivity. An immunostain for epithelial membrane antigen (EMA) shows rare cells with granular, dot-like cytoplasmic reactivity. A Ki-67 stain shows an increased proliferative index, focally elevated to 11%. ---- Taken together, the morphologic and immunohistochemical features are most consistent with a diagnosis of ependymoma with tanycytic and focal clear cell features, and increased proliferative index (WHO grade II).
