Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (GLIAL) | Ependymoma - Gross & Microscopic | 5F2 Ependymoma (Case 5), mimicking MPE, L2, Mucicarmine 40X
There is no evidence of mucin. ---- Not shown: The tumor cells also show patchy cytoplasmic and dot-like reactivity to CD99. A D2-40 immunostain is largely negative. An additional histochemical stain (mucicarmine) is negative for myxoid material. ---- Comment: The overall findings are consistent with ependymoma, WHO grade II. Although the tumor morphologically looks like a routine ependymoma, presence of a capsule and gross resection in toto likely portend a much more favorable outcome in this particular case.
