24E Ependymoma, WHO II (Case 24) NF 1.jpg
Neurofilament highlights the solid growth pattern of this tumor and shows some entrapment of axons at the periphery of the tumor. ---- The proliferative index appears elevated. While this may be high for an ependymoma in general, it appears that some chronic inflammatory cells may be artificially elevating the proliferation rate. Comment: The overall histomorphologic and immunophenotypic characteristics are that of an Ependymoma, WHO Grade 2. Higher grade features (hypercellularity, increased mitotic activity, necrosis, and microvascular proliferation) are not identified in this tumor.
