Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (GLIAL) | Ependymoma - Microscopic | 25F Ependymoma, focal anaplasia, Grade III (Case 25) NF 2.jpg
The tumor lacks neurofilament immunoreactivity evidence of its solid growth pattern rather than infiltrative. (NF IHC) ---- Not shown: Neurofilament is negative in the tumor and it highlights its solid, non-infiltrative growth pattern. The proliferation marker Ki67 stains an elevated subset of tumor cell nuclei at variable density, ranging focally up to 17%. ---- Comment: The overall histomorphologic and immunophenotypic findings are those of an ependymoma with focal anaplasia, WHO grade 3. The designation of focal anaplasia is applied in this case because of the patchy areas of hypercellularity with increased mitoses.
