Trichrome staining highlights the cytoplasmic granules. (Trichrome) ---- Comment: The morphological and immunohistochemical features of this tumor are most consistent with an ependymoma with focal anaplasia, WHO grade 3. While much of the tumor is bland in appearance, resembling tanycytic or piloid growth, other areas have classical ependymoma features as well as focal anaplasia. FISH for p16 was performed and was negative for deletions.
