Morphologically, the viable tumor tissue is almost completely adenoid, composed of irregular cords and strands of cells with high grade nuclear morphology and modest cytoplasm, suspended in a pale blue myxoid matrix. Within the tumor tissue, apoptotic bodies were numerous and foci of 'spontaneous' necrosis with karyorrhexis were present. Most of the viable tumor tissue surrounded blood vessels, with intervening bands of bland necrosis.
