Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (GLIAL) | Glioblastoma, epithelioid | 2B3 Case 2 Additioinal Studies
2B3 Additional studies (not shown): S-100 protein, and vimentin stained strongly. ---- There is focal positivity for pancytokeratin and patchy questionably weak positivity for EMA. The tumor cells are negative for cytokeratin CAM5.2 and MART-1. Neurofilament protein immunohistochemistry highlights entrapped axons, mostly at the peripheral portions of the tumor, consistent with a partially infiltrative growth pattern. ---- A subset of tumor cells show strong nuclear immunoreactivity for p53 protein. ---- The Ki-67 labeling index is moderate, estimated at 10%. ---- FISH studies show high level polysomies (gains) of chromosome 7, but no definite amplification of the EGFR gene. The majority of tumor cells contained two copies of the chromosome 10q markers, likely representing a relative 10q deletion in an otherwise polyploid neoplasm. ---- The morphologic, immunohistochemical, and genetic features are consistent with the diagnosis of epithelioid glioblastoma.
