4B1 GBM, granular cell (Case 4) H&E 20X RES 2
4B1-4 Sections reveal a moderately cellular infiltrative neoplasm with moderate nuclear pleomorphism. The majority of tumor cells are large and histiocyte-like, containing foamy clear to eosinophilic granular cytoplasm, although they do not usually have macrophage-type nuclei. Multinucleated forms are also identified. There are only rare cells resembling fibrillary astrocytoma. Intermixed with the tumor cells are numerous smaller macrophages, lymphocytes, and plasma cells. Only occasional mitotic figures are seen, but there is focal microvascular proliferation. No definite tumor necrosis is evident.
