The majority of the tumor cells have an oval nuclear contour with mild hyperchromasia and occasional perinuclear clear halos. The mitotic index is brisk and there is focal necrosis. ---- FISH Results (not shown) Polysomies (i.e., gains) of both chromosomes 1 and 19 were identified without evidence of deletions. There was widespread high-level EGFR gene amplification evident in this case. The genetic features support the diagnosis of small cell glioblastoma.
