The fresh brain weighed 1410 grams at autopsy. The external surfaces of this intact brain showed edema centered on the left frontal lobe with anterior cingulate gyrus herniation. The external and cut surfaces revealed expansive cortical and subcortical tumor that had areas of necrosis and obliteration of grey-white matter boundaries. The entire left hemisphere was swollen and the right frontal lobe appeared involved in addition to the corpus callosum that was much thicker than normal anteriorly.
