5A1 Glioblastoma (Case 5) 2
5A1-6 There is tumor and a moderate degree of cerebral edema with flattening of the gyri and narrowing of the sulci, involving left and, to a lesser degree, involves the superior, middle and inferior temporal gyri as well as the parahippocampal gyrus and uncus. There appears to be gross enlargement bilaterally of the optic chiasm as well as swelling and grey discoloration involving the region of the infundibulum. There is asymmetry in the region of the unci secondary to the apparent tumor involvement. The tumor for the most part consists of a grey gelatinous tissue with foci of hemorrhage and yellowish necrosis. In addition, there is diffuse grey colored enlargement representing tumor extension in the region of the hypothalamus, optic tract and chiasm, the septum pellucidum and fornix. A 1mm grey colored rim is seen outlining the lateral ventricles throughout their extent. There is diffuse grey discoloration noted in the pontine tegmentum and surrounding the outline of the fourth ventricle. The tumor extends over the spinal cord.
