The same area is shown stained for reticulin. ---- Ancillary studies (not shown): The tumor cells are negative for synaptophysin and CD99, while a subset of tumor cells showed immunoreactivity for p53 protein. A subset of sarcomatous tumor cells also showed strong cytoplasmic immunoreactivity for desmin and smooth muscle actin. The tumor cells are negative for chromogranin, epithelial membrane antigen, and Neu-N. There is retained nuclear expression of BAF47. ---- The morphologic and immunohistochemical features are consistent with the diagnosis of gliosarcoma with small residual foci of PNET-like elements, WHO grade IV.
