Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (GLIAL) | Gliosarcoma | 15B1 Gliosarcoma (Case 15) H&E 4
15B1-4 Sections of the "left frontal lobe tumor" show a malignant glial neoplasm composed predominantly of spindled cells with elongated nuclei and tapered ends. Their architectural appearance is predominantly fascicular, but in areas they show a cartwheel pattern and become storiform. Many of the spindle shaped cells have enlarged anaplastic appearing nuclei with large eosinophilic intranuclear inclusions, some of which are multiple. Mitoses are easily identified. Though predominantly spindled, there are areas of tumor which show more classic glial features including small cells with bipolar nuclei, endothelial hyperplasia and necrosis. (H&E)
