A reticulin stain shows increased reticulin content, consistent with a gliosarcomatous component. GFAP is positive in a subset of tumor cells, but is negative in large areas of tumor, again consistent with a gliosarcomatous component. Overall, given the presence of a prominent spindled component in this newly resected material which shows patches of reticulin-rich/GFAP-poor tumor, we favored the diagnosis of gliosarcoma, which has arisen from a glioblastoma with an oligodendroglioma component.
