GFAP highlights some gliofibrillary oligodendroglial cells, as well as many mini-gemistocytes. Not shown: Immunohistochemistry for p53 demonstrates weak nuclear staining in a few scattered cells. Immunostaining for Ki 67 demonstrates a proliferation rate of 9%. FISH shows deletions of both 1p and 19q in both near diploid and near tetraploid populations.
Comment:
The morphological and immunohistochemical features of this tumor are diagnostic of an anaplastic oligodendroglioma (WHO grade III), even with an unimpressive proliferative index.
