The tumor cells are round to oval, many with a clear halo around them, and contain round regular nuclei with crisp nuclear membranes. The cells infiltrating the cortex show perineuronal satelliting. There is focal prominence of chicken-wire vascular pattern and rare foci of dystrophic calcification. Pleomorphism is mild to moderate and mitoses are uncommon. The latter is furthermore highlighted by an overall low Ki-67 labeling index (~3.8% in the most active areas). Although there is focal prominence of endothelial cells, it lacks the stratification and does not qualify for microvascular proliferation. Necrosis is absent. FISH studies demonstrate 1p and 19q deletions.
