6C1 Oligodendroglioma, grade III (Case 6) H&E WM
6C1 The whole mount of the surgical specimen shows variegated density involving the gray and white matter. There is moderate to marked nuclear pleomorphism with a significant number of tumor nuclei containing round regular nuclei with delicate chromatin and clear perinuclear halos. Perineuronal satellitosis is evident in areas of cortical involvement. There is prominence of a chicken-wire vascular pattern. Mitoses are frequent (~14/10 HPF), with patchy areas of microvascular proliferation and necrosis. Foci of marked reactive astrocytosis and hemosiderin deposition are also noted.
