Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (GLIAL) | Oligodendroglioma - IDH1 mutant, del 1p19q - Grade 2 | 13A1 Oligodendroglioma, Grade II (Case 13) H&E whole mount
Case 13 History ---- The patient is a 56-year-old woman who presents with headaches. Brain MRI in 12/2013 showed a large area of infiltrating T2/FLAIR hyperintensity, without post-contrast enhancement, of the right frontal lobe with extension into the corpus callosum. Operative procedure: Craniotomy for tumor excision with intra-operative MRI. ---- 13A1-4 H&E demonstrates a moderately cellular diffusely infiltrative low grade oligodendroglial glioma with secondary structures, low mitotic figure counts, and no microvascular proliferation or necrosis. The tumor does extend into the leptomeninges. There are patchy microcystic areas with abundant extracellular myxoid matrix. Mitotic figures are infrequent, and rarely reach 3 mitoses/10 HPF.
