There are patchy microcystic areas with abundant extracellular myxoid matrix. The tumor cells have an overall oligodendroglial-like appearance with perinuclear clearing ('halos') and nuclei that are round and regular, have coarse open chromatin, have crisp nuclear membranes, and have inconspicuous nucleoli.
