14A Oligodendroglioma, grade II (Case 14) Gross 1
Case 14 History ---- The patient is a 34 year old pregnant woman with a history of seizures and a brain mass lesion. Operative procedure: Resection. ---- 14A The neurosurgical specimen shows a blurred gray/white cortical junction. ---- Not shown: The neoplasm is composed of round, uniform cells with a finely granular chromatin pattern. Occasional large nuclei and mitotic figures are present. Focal, relatively hypercellular areas are also seen. There is no evidence of vascular proliferation, necrosis, or significant atypia. Large areas with multicystic change within the neoplasm are present, some of the cysts showing degenerative changes, calcification, and infiltration by foamy macrophages. Focal subpial condensation of neoplastic cells, and infiltration of the cortex with perineural satelliting in some areas are also seen.
