Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (GLIAL) | Oligodendroglioma - IDH1 mutant, del 1p19q - Grade 2 | 15A1 Oligodendroglioma Grade 2 (Case 15) H&E 10X 1
Case 15 History ---- The patient is 56-year-old man with an episode of fall and tongue-biting, concerning for a seizure. MRI shows expansile cortical/subcortical T2/FLAIR non-enhancing right frontal mass. Operative procedure: Right frontal craniotomy for tumor resection. ---- 15A1-3 H&E stained sections show cerebral cortex and subcortical white matter involved by a diffusely infiltrative glioma with mild to moderate hypercellularity. Secondary structures comprised by perineuronal satellitosis and subpial aggregation are conspicuous. Focally, there is presence of microcysts. The tumor cells demonstrate round and regular nuclei, micro-nucleoli, and scant cytoplasm with prominent perinuclear halos. There is mostly mild pleomorphism, and limited mitotic activity that focally reaches up to 3/10HPF. Microvascular proliferation and/or tumor necrosis are not evident.
