18A1 Oligodendroglioma, WHO II (Case 18) H&E 1
Case 18 History ---- The patient is a 30-year-old man with an incidentally identified right temporal tumor diagnosed 4-5 years ago. He began to have progressive neurologic symptoms in January 2018. In October 2018, he developed fatigue, blurry vision, and numerous daily seizures. Brain MRI in 7/2018 showed an expansile infiltrative T2/FLAIR hyperintense lesion involving the right insula and temporal lobe. Operative procedure: Right frontotemporal craniotomy for tumor resection. ----18A1,2 Routine H&E stains showed infiltrating oligodendroglioma round, irregular nuclei with crisp nuclear membrane and perinuclear halos. The tumor cells form secondary structures around neurons and blood vessels. Mitotic activity is not increased (< 1/10HPF). Microvascular proliferation and necrosis are not identified.
