Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (GLIAL) | Oligodendroglioma - IDH1 mutant, del 1p19q - Grade 3 | 17A1 Oligodendroglioma, Gr3, 1p-9q del, small cell GBM mimic (Case 17) H&E 1
Case 17 History ---- The patient is a 46 year old man who underwent resection of a right frontal lobe glioma in 1999. A second surgery was recently performed for clinical evidence for recurrence. ---- 17A1-3 A representative section from the 1999 specimen reveals a highly cellular infiltrative glial neoplasm with moderate nuclear pleomorphism. In some areas, the tumor cells appear enlarged, epithelioid, and have more prominent nucleoli. In these areas, there is brisk mitotic activity, microvascular proliferation, and foci of infarct-like necrosis. The morphologic features are consistent with the diagnosis of anaplastic oligodendroglioma, WHO grade 3.
