H&E stained sections show a diffusely infiltrative glioma consisting of tumor cells composed of relatively round, regular nuclei and empty cytoplasm (i.e., perinuclear halos). Prominent microvascular endothelial proliferation is present, but tumor necrosis is not appreciated. Mitoses are estimated to be up to 2-4 per 10 high power fields.
