Microscopic examination shows an oligodendroglioma with focal anaplasia. The neoplastic cells show perineuronal and perivascular satelliting and are concentrated under the pia. Scattered areas of vague nodule formation are present in the white matter. Focal areas of microcyst formation and scattered microscopic foci of apparent necrosis with perivascular foamy macrophages are also identified. There is a focally prominent mitotic activity (>6 mitoses/10HPF).
