Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (GLIAL) | Oligodendroglioma - IDH1 mutant, del 1p19q - Grade 3 | 6A2 Oligodendroglioma, Gr3 & neurocytic (Case 6) H&E 8
6A2-5 In much of the tumor the pattern is a typical of grade 3 oligodendroglioma with chicken-wire vasculature, dystrophic calcifications and mild pleomorphism. However, in other areas, the tumor have a prominent neurocytic rosette-like pattern with a central neuropil-like area relatively free of nuclei. Mitoses are diffusely scattered and in some hypercellular foci they are frequent. In addition, focal prominent endothelial cell proliferation and pseudopalisading necrosis are notable. Focal leptomeningeal spread and infiltration into the adjacent cortex are also present. The overall morphological findings are consistent with anaplastic oligodendroglioma.
