Tumor cells show retained ATRX expression. ---- Not shown: p53 is positive in scattered tumor cells. The Ki-67 proliferation marker stains >60% of neoplastic cells in several areas of the tumor. Taken together, the finding of necrosis, widespread microvascular proliferation and elevated mitotic rate are diagnostic of anaplastic oligodendroglioma, WHO grade 3, residual/recurrent.
