Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (GLIAL) | Pleomorphic Xanthoastrocytoma (PXA) | 13B2 PXA (Case 13) Retic 40X 3
A reticulin stain shows deposition between individual tumor cells. ---- Ancillary findings (not shown). The tumor cells were immunoreactive for GFAP and NSE. One of the compelling aspects of this neoplasm to suggest that it may have arisen as a pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma is its radiographic appearance. The classification of this tumor currently would be anaplastic PXA but, at the time of original diagnosis the possibility that it was a glioblastoma remained a consideration. The patient alive 21 years following the surgery, unlikely behavior for a glioblastoma. (H&E)
