20A1 PXA (Case 20) A H&E Smear 40X 2
The patient is a 31 year old woman with visual blurring and scintillatory scotomata in her right eye with severe right supraorbital pain. In 1991 during her second pregnancy, she continued to have these symptoms. A head CT and MRI were performed at that time and a diagnosis of right occipital AVM was made. After delivery of the baby, an angiogram was negative and a second MRI with gadolinium shows continued pressure in the lesion. Operative procedure: Posterior fossa craniotomy for tumor resection. Clinical diagnosis: Right occipital lesion. ---- 20A1 An intraoperative smear preparation showed scattered markedly pleomorphic cells and scattered eosinophilic granular bodies. (H&E)
