Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (GLIAL) | Subependymal Giant Cell Astrocytoma (SEGA) | 19A1 Tuberous Sclerosis (Case 19) 1 copy
At autopsy the weight of the unfixed brain was 380 grams (normal 318+/-106g). Several subependymal firm gray/tan nodules that project into the ventricles are seen within the right frontal region (0.7 cm x 0.6 cm), left frontal region (0.7 cm x 0.6 cm), left parietal region (0.7 cm x 0.5 cm), and right occipital/ parietal region (1.2 cm x 0.9 cm). --- 19A1,2 Multiple lesions (arrowheads, 19A1) are seen in these coronal sections of the brain. It seems artificial to separate intraventricular lesions on the basis of size in a brain this early in life. These lesions are best appreciated as SEGA/SEN realizing that some would progress to SEGA.
