Higher magnification of the tumor cells (H&E) ---- Ancillary findings (not shown): Immunohistochemically stained sections show weak cytoplasmic reactivity for glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) within a minority of tumor cells, and strong reactivity within rare entrapped benign astrocytes. Reactivity for synaptophysin is weak-to-absent among tumor cells. The tumor cells show no reactivity for NeuN, neurofilament protein, or cytokeratin CAM 5.2.
