Case 10 History ---- The patient was a 67-year-old man who was operated upon for an "acoustic neurilemmoma" 6 years prior to his death. As residual effects of this surgery he had a left hemiparesis, left facial weakness, dysarthria, dysphagia, and ataxia. He was admitted, terminally, with a diagnosis of pneumonia, which did not respond to antibiotic therapy. During the interim between the original surgical procedure and his death, he had been re-examined and it was felt that he had a recurrence of his original tumor. ---- Gross pathology: There was a soft, white, nodular mass measuring 6 x 4 cm. in the left cerebellopontine angle displacing the cerebellum and the brain stem. No calcification or areas of necrosis were seen.
