Case 5 History ---- The patient was a 49 year old farmer who had been in good general health throughout his life. A short time after an influenza inoculation, he died of fulminant acute hemorrhagic leukoencephalitis (Weston Hurst disease) which involved the pyramids in the gross specimen (5A2). In the fourth ventricle there was a small bosselated mass. ---- 5A1,2 The fourth ventricle is a common site for incidental subependymomas. Notice the discoloration and myelin loss in the pyramids in this case of AHL.
