Case 4 History ---- The patient was a 91-year-old woman with a long history of congestive heart failure, lymphoproliferative disorder and osteoporosis. She was admitted to BJC in 10/2003 due to shortness of breath and decreased mental status. She was found to have urosepsis and respiratory failure with pleural effusion which was drained percutaneously. She had been diagnosed as having a spindle cell tumor of unknown origin in April, 2003. Even with vigorous antibiotic treatment, the patient developed sepsis and ARDS and expired.
