7B1 Metastases leptomeningeal, breast origin (Case 7) 6
7B1-3 Histological sections of the brain and spinal cord show widespread but subtle leptomeningeal involvement by metastatic adenocarcinoma. The neoplastic cells appear singly, in clusters with smooth community borders, and occasionally in linear arrays, suggestive of the single cell filing typical of mammary carcinoma. The cells exhibit a high but variable nuclear-to-cytoplasmic ratio, one or more nuclei with irregular, often grooved contours, occasional prominent nucleoli, eosinophilic cytoplasm, and rare cytoplasmic vacuoles.
