Sections show a malignant neoplasm composed of tumor cells with irregular, hyperchromatic nuclei and predominantly clear cytoplasm in the vascular-rich background. The morphology is similar to the patient's prior resection specimen of the T8 paraspinal metastasis of renal carcinoma.
