Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (METASTASES) | Metastasis - to - Tumor | 1A0 Case 1 History
Case 1 History ---- The patient was a 73 year old woman who presented complaining of worsening headaches and dizziness for one month. The patient had a known history of an intracranial right CP angle meningioma which was diagnosed on imaging 5 years ago at an outside hospital (see left panel of image 1A1) During her hospital stay, the patient complained of chest pain. A chest radiograph was obtained which showed a right lung mass. A CT of the chest demonstrated a large soft tissue mass with irregular margins in the right upper lobe abutting the mediastinum concerning for a primary lung carcinoma. A whole body PET-CT demonstrated intense F18-FDG uptake in the right cerebellopontine angle mass as well as the right upper lobe lung mass consistent with malignancy. ---- The intracranial mass was surgically resected one month after her initial presentation with the final diagnosis of small cell lung carcinoma metastasis to a WHO grade 1 meningioma.
