Sections reveal multiple fragments of cortex and underlying white matter show multiple intracortical mucin-rich patterned nodules. These nodules contain numerous oligodendroglia-like cells with round regular nuclei and clear perinuclear halos arranged in ribbons and perivascular arrangements. Similar cells are seen in between the nodules and there are also "floating neurons" wherein neurons appear to be floating in small mucin-containing spaces.
