17E1 DNET (Case 17) AA Recurrence 1.jpg
2008 Recurrence: ---- 17E1,2 The 2008 specimen has a completely different appearance. It is composed of a moderately cellular infiltrative glial neoplasm with prominent astrocytic morphology. The majority of tumor cells have oval to irregular hyperchromatic nuclei with abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm. Many of the tumor cells have long thin cytoplasmic processes. Occasional bizarre or atypical multinucleated giant cells are seen. Mitotic figures are relatively infrequent. However, there are extensive degenerative changes, consistent with prior radiation injury. These include markedly hyalinized vessels and large zones of coagulative and fibrinoid necrosis. There is no definite microvascular proliferation or pseudopalisading necrosis.
