22B1 DNET (Case 22) H&E 1.jpg
22B1-4 There are multiple fragments of cortex, and lesser amounts of subcortical white matter, involved by a multifocal patchy low grade glioneuronal neoplasm. In the tumor areas there is delicate vasculature and extracellular basophilic mucinous material. The glial component of the tumor has an 'oligodendrocyte-like' appearance with paranuclear clearing ('halos') and nuclei that are round, regular, have coarse open chromatin, with crisp nuclear membranes, and have inconspicuous nucleoli. There are abundant tumor neurons that appear to be 'free-floating' within small pools of mucin. There is only focal rare satellitosis of the neurons. Mitotic figures are not readily apparent. There is no microvascular proliferation or necrosis.
