At low magnification of the glial component of the tumor has an 'oligodendrocyte-like' appearance with paranuclear clearing ('halos') which appear somewhat artifactual and nuclei that are round, regular, have coarse open chromatin, with crisp nuclear membranes, and have inconspicuous nucleoli.
