Microscopic examination shows a neoplasm composed of multiple mucin-rich, patterned intracortical columns, nodules and is characterized by oligodendroglia-like tumor cells with round to oval, cytologically bland nuclei. There are numerous microscopic mucin-filled cystic spaces with centrally placed, cytologically normal ganglion cells ("floating neurons"). Mitotic figures are difficult to find and there is no necrosis or endothelial hyperplasia.
