Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (NEURONAL) | Desmoplastic Infantile Ganglioglioma (DIG) | 4A6 DIG (Case 4) H&E 40X 2
There is a subpopulation of cells with round nuclei and prominent nucleoli consistent with neurons. (H&E) ---- Ancillary information (not shown) Immunohistochemical stains performed show that many cells are positive for GFAP, consistent with glial differentiation and occasional cells stain with synaptophysin and chromogranin, with focal NeuN positivity, consistent with neuronal differentiation. HMB-45 stains the melanocytes. The MIB-1 labeling index is moderate. There is increased reticulin deposition on special stains. The histology and the immunohistochemical staining pattern is consistent with a diagnosis of desmoplastic infantile ganglioglioma, WHO grade I. ---- His last MRI in 2015 showed a subdural fluid collection but no evidence of recurrence. He was seen for an influenza infection in December of 2022 without neurologic complaints.
