A CD34 immunostain highlights nodules and scattered individual dysplastic elements in the tumor, showing a stellate, cytoplasmic pattern of immunoreactivity. ---- Ancillary data (not shown): Immunohistochemical stains were performed and show the astrocytic tumor cells to be diffusely immunoreactive for GFAP, with a large subset (>50%) being reactive for p53. A PAS/diastase histochemical stain shows rare granular intratumoral EGBs. The MIB-1 labeling index is very low (<1%), showing only rare immunoreactive cells. These findings are consistent with a WHO grade I ganglioglioma.
