2C3-6 This is a low to moderately cellular tumor with both compact and microcystic growth patterns. There is pleomorphism, with the majority of the tumor resembling pilocytic astrocytoma. Most glial tumor cells contain oval nuclei with delicate chromatin and long, thin cytoplasmic processes. There are numerous hyalinized vessels. Some areas show numerous eosinophilic granular bodies. The adjacent brain parenchyma shows numerous Rosenthal fibers. Rare dysmorphic ganglion cells and more numerous neurocytic cells are also noted within the tumor and adjacent brain parenchyma. Mitotic figures are not easily identified and there is no evidence of necrosis. (H&E)
