There is marked hyalinization and calcification of incorporated and adjacent blood vessels, along with an associated reactive astrocytosis. Mitotic figures are difficult to find and there is no necrosis or endothelial hyperplasia. (H&E) ---- Ancillary data (not shown): Immunoperoxidase stains performed demonstrate immunoreactivity in the dysplastic ganglion cells for synaptophysin and neuron specific enolase. GFAP highlights the marked reactive gliosis. The Ki-67 labeling index is essentially zero. ---- The morphologic and immunohistochemical features are consistent with a diagnosis of dysplastic gangliocytoma (Lhermitte-Duclos disease), WHO grade I.
