10A1 Paraganglioma (Case 10) H&E 1.jpg
Case 10 History ---- The patient was a 42 year old man with an intradural, lower spinal cord tumor. The differential diagnosis included ependymoma ---- 10A1-3 This is a solid-appearing, moderately cellular neoplasm arranged in compact nests (Zellballen) and trabeculae. The tumor is hypervascular and numerous hemosiderin-laden macrophages are identified at the periphery of the lesion. Focally, there is extensive hyalinization, calcification, and dystrophic ossification. The tumor cells are rounded to spindled with moderate quantities of eosinophilic cytoplasm. The nuclei are round and uniform with a delicate, "salt and pepper" chromatin pattern. Mitoses are difficult to find.
